I’ve had this post on the back burner for so long now that, I was just considering letting it go but, I’ll try to get through it since, I haven’t been posting a heck of a lot lately. The map above shows a hike that I did, into the Quirke 2 Mine site, a few days ago. It was, basically, a desperation hike since, the weather this fall has been the most miserable fall season that I’ve seen, since coming up here, more than eight years ago.
The cold rain seems never-ending and, of course, with that, comes clouds and wind, making outdoor activities less than enjoyable. Having said that, hardly a day goes by that I don’t get out in the bush but, I’ve been wearing my rain gear more often than I like to. I do have a lot of stuff, videos and pictures, that I’ve been saving up so, there’s no shortage of material. However, there is a slight shortage of willingness to put it up, if you know what I mean. 🙂
Of course, the weather is the weather and, we can’t do anything about that but, prolonged nasty weather does tend to get me down a bit and, reduces my urge to create blog posts. But, let’s see what I can do with this desperation Quirke 2 hike.
What can I say? It was very gloomy, as I made my way into the Quirke 2 Mine site. It wasn’t raining but, I’m getting really starved for sunshine lately.
As you can see, a lot of leaves had fallen by then and, even more are on the ground now. Fall colors are definitely over and, they weren’t that great this year anyway.
A little bit of out of focus, in that video but, the focus works on contrast and, the gloomy sky didn’t have enough contrast to hold focus so, it focused on some dust, on the lens.
As I mentioned, in the video, I do have stuff from other hikes that I did and, I will try to get those up, if I can.
I did fly the drone, on another outing, over by Maybe Lake, before I did this hike and, I got some video footage then. However, the batteries are no longer holding a charge so, that’s it for the drone.
I think that I’m just going to zip through this post fairly quickly since, the weather was so gloomy and, so are the pictures and videos.
A lot of times, when I get out in the bush like this, where life is so clear, I get to thinking about how most people live. To me, living in an unrealistic fantasy is very sad. But, there are many reasons why people choose fantasy over reality. I just have to wonder, if everyone had the experience of the wilderness to lean on, then, a lot of them might choose differently.
Yes, it’s gloomy out here today but, I still love being out here. There’s something about it that feeds my spirit and, keeps life very enjoyable.
It’s a very difficult thing to describe, especially to someone who is lost in a fantasy world.
Out here, I don’t need to ‘think’. I can just put my ‘being’ on cruise control.
Rooster in the Fall. I usually get up on the rooster in the fall but, the terrible weather and, the poor fall colors, put the kibosh on that this year.
Besides, it seems to me that, ever since this new General Manager took over, at Denison Environmental, the mine sites have become less of an attraction for me. The thing is, I’m sure that she doesn’t realize that, the only people she has alienated, are the people who were responsible hikers. Those who have no respect for signs, still enter, even with a huge sign that says, No Hiking. All this does is encourage disregard for these signs so, congratulations on a job poorly done Denison.
Your truly, takes a break, with a little bit of blue sky showing, in the background.
There are a lot of small oak trees up here and, I took a walk through them.
Time to make my way back out now but, I was very grateful for the quiet hike, despite the weather. I have more stuff to put up and, I’ll try to get to it, in the next few days.
