Once again, I’m doing so much lately that, I’m falling behind, in my blog posts. I did this hike on a Sunday and, I wasn’t looking to do anything too substantial but, I don’t like to let nice weather slide by, without getting out. I had already done a hike, along this railway bed, from the Quirke 2 Mine site side so, I figured that I might as well do a hike from the Quirke 1 Mine site side today. This hike also takes me through the actual mine site area too so, let’s take a look at how things went.
Just inside the Quirke 1 Mine site gate, there is this river, that runs across the road. Many times I can’t get across here, without getting wet feet but, today, as you can see, the beavers helped me out.
I haven’t done this hike in a number of years so, it was a good choice for me, on this Sunday.
The weather was a bit warm and, humid but, like I said, this wasn’t going to be a very demanding hike.
However, I did work up a pretty good sweat since, there are hills involved.
There were hundreds of grasshoppers bouncing around in front of me, as I made my way up the hill here.
So, there!!! I try to be responsible but, I don’t like when people try to pull a fast one on me. I might be considerate but, I’m not stupid, so, don’t treat me like I am. As far as I’m concerned, any agreement I had with Denison Evironmental is out the window now.
Up on a hill, looking down at the open area, where all the mine site buildings once stood.
Walking along the old railway bed, that used to carry ore, from the Quirke 2 Mine site, to this Quirke 1 Mine site, to be milled.
The deer flies were pretty active today, as they usually are, when it’s sunny out.
Of course, the railway bed is perfectly level so, it’s a fairly easy walk, except for the bugs.
Like when I’m coming up, from the south side, I can only go as far as the Serpent River since, there is no bridge here anymore.
In fact, I did go back to Maybe Lake, to do some fishing, the day after this hike so, I’ll be working on that blog post next.
I guess one of the reasons that I like to keep on the move is that, when I stop, the bugs attack.
Many times, I’ll hike this area in the winter, on snowshoes. There is a longer trail, that comes up from Panel Mine road, called the Snowshoe Trail and, it provides a pretty good winter workout.
Back at the river and, the entrance gate but, I parked my truck farther down the road, to the left so, I still have a bit of footwork to do.
Anyway, like I said, it was just the kind of hike that I needed, for today. This coming week is supposed to be cooler and, less humid so, I might be able to get more done. We will see. 🙂
